Olive 2… A.K.A Emma
I already know what all of you are thinking after reading the title, the first Olive only lasted a little over a month! Well the circumstances this time have changed a lot from when we were living in our third floor apartment in Buffalo. We are now basically on the first floor in Charlotte, a quick walk outside, also Toni is home all day, and this new puppy is about the age Olive was when we gave her away. We also put some more thought into this one and made it a mutual decision.

Not our adopted puppy but she looks just as cute.
It all started with us coming home from church Saturday morning trying to think of something to do. We sat down to relax for a bit and ended up eating lunch and watching some TV until about one or two. At this point we started talking about a puppy, don’t ask me how we got on the subject because it came out of no where. We decided to go to Pet-co and just look and see if they had any for adoption. They did not.
We asked a cashier for the location of the nearest S.P.C.A which was the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control Center. I looked it up on google maps from my cell phone and we were off. It was only a short time before we were walking along the cages looking at all the cute puppies, since apparently it is puppy season and writing down the ones we liked.
The second one added to the list, but in no way our second choice was a cute little sleeping black Labrador Retriever. After several walks up and down the child filled path we made our way back up front to setup a visit with the pup. They brought her up and into a private room where we got to see how she acted. She was shy at first but started to warm up after a bit. She seemed to enjoy the attention and scratches though.
After about ten minutes of visitation we made our decision to adopt her. We put her on reserve so she wouldn’t be adopted out from under us and we ran to our apartment complex to get some paperwork from the front office stating that pets were allowed. We scrambled back, filled out the necessary form, paid the fee and it was history.
She is being spade today and we pick her up right after that and bring her to her new home. Since she is a new puppy we had to come up with a name. I suggested Olive but it was obviously shot down. We asked Toni’s sister for a suggestion since she came up with Olive’s name but nothing was clicking. At that point we were watching TV again back at home and relaxing. The name hit me when one of the TV show characters names was mentioned, Emma. Emma was our choice for a girls name had our baby been a female and it seemed to be fitting as the puppy would be a part of our family too.
Now I know everyone keeps saying “You’re having a baby! Isn’t that enough?” or “You sure you’re ready for a puppy and a baby?” but I think we are. Brody will have a little friend to grow up with now and we still have about a month of potty training time before we have to change diapers too! All in all our family has grown again for the better. We have more responsibility on our shoulders but we will survive and it will be worth it. And no I’m not renaming the blog.
