The Adventures of Toni and Chris…Part 2
Well the adventure continued this past Friday and the events that transpired over the weekend following that provided me with fluff for the next couple of blogs. If you didn’t already know, Toni went for another ultra sound on Friday to the specialist to unsure Brody’s health. Of course he is doing just fine, weighing in at 4 lbs. 12 oz. and continuing his fight against Mommy’s ribs.
The story begins shortly after we left the doctor’s office. We proceeded to get on the highway to head home and then to a friends for a cookout! Of course Murphy’s Law took effect the second we got to the on ramp and we hit traffic. It was a nice day out so we rolled down the windows, opened the sun roof and soaked up the rays while jamming out to some country music and inching along the road.
I had enough of the slow pace as the time was getting closer to when we were supposed to arrive for the cookout. I got off at the next exit that was familiar to me but in retrospect I should have waiting out the traffic on the highway. I picked the worst exit as it was also jam packed with traffic that continued to the road the ramp drained into. This crawl continued on for some time and we ended up breaking through after about an hour.
Moving at a better pace now I turned down the normal back roads to head home. I pointed out a tall tower of smoke, billowing into the sky and as we continued on we had to pull over several times for emergency vehicles. I figured this trend would change as we moved closer and closer to our apartment complex, it did not.
The last fire truck we stopped for turned down our road and appeared to be driving past the apartments. After closer inspection on the approach to our turn we realized the smoke was coming from the front portion of the apartment complex. Our apartment luckily is at the back so we were not affected more than a slow drive. We grabbed our brownies and changed quickly and headed to the cookout.
The next day the news stated that the blaze put four families out of house and home and was caused by a simple cigarette butt. We made sure to go to church the next morning, thanking God for the unburned apartment. On a lighter note we loved my friends neighborhood. He just moved into a beautiful house in Indian Trail, Union County and we hopefully will be moving near him very soon. I’m looking into some perspective homes as I write.
