All Night Long!
Well since Brody came home from the hospital Toni and I have not been sleeping to well to say the least. In fact we went to bed at 7 the other night just to do a little catch up. Now that I’m back to work it is even worse. That’s also the reason I haven’t been keeping you all up to date.
Of course he is a baby and needs to wake up every few hours to eat and be changed but the bad part of this is that he doesn’t go back to sleep. He could sleep all day long through us talking and watching TV but at night when we change his diaper he is wide eyed for a while after.
Last week at work I was struggling to keep my eyes open and fighting off a headache. I planed to head to bed around 7 again that night but I don’t think it happened. Toni and I try to switch off on feedings but no matter what, we never get a good night sleep. Either we are up every few hours for feedings or waking the other up to do the same. It has been a rough road.
One month down the line we are in a little bit better shape though. We have managed to get Brody to sleep at night and be a little bit more awake during the day. Last night we began our quest to get him to sleep all through the night by starting on demand feedings. So far it is panning out well.
Another thorn in our side is Brody’s knack for soiling multiple diapers in a single bound. You will be changing him and wiping his tush and placing the new diaper under it when he will proceed to continue his soiling. There have even been instances where he did that a couple times in one changing.
Not only does he soil diapers, he soils everything else. He has peed on myself, Toni, the wall behind his dresser, the rug, numerous outfits, his dresser, towels during baths, receiving blankets… The list is endless! His most recent bath time experience was one that gave me a good laugh. Toni did not wait after his feeding before tossing him in the bath so the first thing he did was poop in his tub. It wasn’t a little one either, he kept going for a few minutes.
For as much stress he has brought into our lives he has brought ten times more joy and love. We always have a good laugh after he pees on one of us or grunts his frustration out while eating. He is the best thing since sliced bread, cinnamon bread, cinnamon raisin bread! And we are always looking forward to more good times we get to have with him.
