Emma…The Monster!
Not to deviate from Brody but Emma deserves her piece of the pie, she is after all part of the family too. The blog is dedicated to all the fun and laughter that she brings to our lives. She has been an amazing puppy ever since the day we brought her home from the animal shelter.
To start, potty training was a breeze. I think she has had around five to six accidents in the two months that we have owned her. She whines and comes to you or goes to the door when she needs to go and even if she really has to go she holds it. Not just for short periods of time either, we are talking about the puppy that held it for twelve hours while Toni was in labor.
Now that she has been trained and waits to go outside there are times, pretty much every time that she really has to go. That is fine when it is night time or during the day on a weekday because she will run straight for the grass but every other time there are a lot of children hanging out on the deck in front of our apartment. When she sees people she forgets what her objective was and she get excited and goes to visit. This leads to her peeing all over the deck and pretty much on the person too.
Adults know not to get her excited when she is headed out but the kids will never learn. We have told them every time that when she is going out not to call her or get her excited because she will pee on them but they continue to do it. We are to the point that we don’t care anymore and we let her pee on them because they apparently don’t care.
Number two is another story all together. We have a few different areas that she likes to go. Now the problem when she has to go is distractions! If it isn’t the fuzz floating by in the soft summer breeze that she loves to chase its a kid running towards her when she is beginning to squat. She won’t just wait until she is done to get excited, she starts to run towards them all the while squatting and pooping. Now this makes for one funny sight but impacts her potty time so we have to continue to tell them to go away.
All in all Emma is one heck of a puppy. Even though it has been a bit of a struggle with the baby arriving so soon after Emma, it has worked out pretty well. She has adapted to having the baby home and we have been able to get into routines as well. We love our little puppy, just as much as we love Brody. She will be a great sister to her younger brother.
