Return Of The Jesz!

Well here I am, two weeks after the birth of my son to the day. I’m drinking a beer and enjoying our last day with the In-laws while we relax and watch some TV. The Cigars have been smoked and the sleepless nights have begun.

Its going to take a few blogs to recollect the past two weeks worth of events but I will try to roll them out fast. I go back to work in two days on Sunday so I should have some time to write more while away from the baby and wife. I’ll start from the beginning…

Eyes wide open for the camera.

Eyes wide open for the camera.

Here he is, born five pounds one ounce. Toni was a trooper to get this little man out, she suffered through twenty one hours of labor, two of which she was pushing. He popped out while I watched and was rushed to the nurses. I was not able to cut his cord because he needed attention right away. The whole thing seemed to swish by in time, even though I remember every minute of it.

I’ll never forget looking at Toni thinking that we are a Mommy and Daddy now. I kissed her and went and took a couple pictures of our son while he was being cleaned up. I could not stop crying and thinking that I was a Dad. It is an incredible feeling knowing that you were a part of creating a life.

We spent about an hour in her delivery suite while she recovered then we headed down to the NICU to see our baby. He was hooked up to all sorts of machines but was off the respirator. The water works began to flow again just looking at him and they were tears of joy for him just being here.

The days rolled on and we continued to visit Brody several times a day. It was beginning to get a little discouraging as the doctors kept changing his release date. It started out at Monday or Tuesday and then progressed to Thursday, then Friday, and finally Sunday. We were very relieved when we came in Sunday to take him home!

He had gained six ounces in that week he spent in the hospital and he looked like a healthy little baby. We watched the videos on CPR and The Period of Purple Crying which is when babies cry for no reason other than to cry, and spoke with the nurse for a while then carefully drove Brody home and welcomes him in with all our love.

He is doing well now, eating and sleeping as he pleases and getting Toni and I on his schedule. The blog on the sleepless nights is next. It will include the comical portion of having a baby boy as well. Until then…
